Background
Ooi Eng Hong, a co-founder and director of IBS Advisory (M) Sdn. Bhd., a company specializes in Wealth Management. He holds a Bachelor of Science, Financial Management from University of Montana, U.S.A. Eng Hong also holds an MBA from Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is also a qualified Certified Financial Planner and Registered Financial Planner.
He started his career with Bank Industri (M) Berhad as a Credit & Marketing Executive. A year later, he was transferred to the then newly established Export-Import Bank Malaysia Berhad (“MEXIM”). After working for development banks for a total of two years, Eng Hong was offered a position with The Sakura Bank, Limited (now known as Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation), a Japanese offshore bank based in Labuan. He was with The Sakura Bank, Limited for a total of four years.

In early year 2000, as the world continued facing economy crisis and retrenchment was a common scenario back then, his former employer also started retrenching staff by offering Voluntarily Separation Scheme (“VSS”) to its operations staff. Be it lucky or unlucky, Eng Hong was not offered VSS option.
Eng Hong realized he needed to reevaluate his future planning seriously. As such, he decided to meet his employer and discussed about his future in the company. During the meeting, Eng Hong asked his employer, “Boss, if I decide to continue working with the bank, does it means the bank would not retrench me?” His employer replied, “no, your future in the bank is not guaranteed as the bank may retrench staff whenever need arises'” Upon hearing this, Eng Hong managed to convince his employer to offer him VSS as he believes, whenever there is a crisis, there is always opportunity for people who take action to grab them. After signing VSS Agreement, Eng Hong’s former employer still tried to counter-offered him with better perks. In addition, he also received many objections from his family and friends. Despite all these, Eng Hong was very determined to leave as he has made up his mind pursuing his dream to become an entrepreneur.. This VSS also ended Eng Hong’s 6 years lucrative banking career and he started to embark his journey to become a successful entrepreneur.
A Successful Entrepreneur
Today, his remarkable achievements have proven he has made the right decision to leave his employment world and becoming an entrepreneur. Eng Hong also aware, the fact is not how successful he is but how many people he has helped to succeed. Eng Hong is proud to see his business partners are doing well and their success has changed their standard of living.
